My Biggest Fear
The reality of man is his thought
Or so I thought
But what if our thoughts were snatched back
Red. Revealing something that was nothing.
Or snatched away, suddenly-
Would we still exist?
If Descartes is right then we are because we think
But what if the molten wax is no longer
What if the hats outside my window
Are not people, but simply fabric
If the thread of rationality were robbed-
Can our equation exist without m?
If Swaab is right then we are our brains
Surely more than just organic matter
We feel the pain and we hurt
We see faces and individuals
We love
Actin and myelin,
We act like we matter
Years of navigation
Through emotions and information
Through places and to destinations
We strengthen connections
With people, between cells
We plastize- we grow and we learn
Withering away
Wandering around
Plaques- where am I
Tangles- who are you?
A hollow body, a dwindling reality
An eclipse before sunset.
